The Proventia FTF collects exhaust soot in a metal filter media and stores it until it can be regenerated. The filter regenerates, or cleans itself, whenever the TRU runs in high-speed operation or when the TRU runs in start/stop mode.
During extended operation in low-speed operation, the FTF will regenerate some soot but will also accumulate some soot. This accumulation of soot during low speed operation will cause the backpressure of the FTF to slowly increase.
The Proventia FTF system for Trailer TRUs (not Bobtail TRUs) includes a backpressure controller that will measure when the FTF has accumulated its capacity for soot during extended low-speed operation. The controller will then automatically shift the TRU into high speed operation for 10 minutes to clean out the accumulated soot.
The FTF depends on hot exhaust temperatures at high speed operation to fully regenerate the soot, so frequent deliveries and door openings that cause the TRU to operate in high speed will help in the soot regeneration.
In addition, the Proventia FTF system for Trailer TRUs includes durable exhaust system insulation to ensure that the exhaust leaving the engine stays hot until it reaches the FTF.
The Proventia FTF kit consists of the FTF, insulation package, backpressure controller components, and all parts needed for installation. Typical installation of the kit is about two hours for Trailer TRUs and one hour for Bobtail/straight truck TRUs.
